Who is Counselling for
Anyone can benefit from counselling. You don't have to be experiencing high levels of anxiety or depression or struggling to cope. Counselling can help in other ways such as if you are feeling stuck, or in a repetitive situation be it work or relationships, it can help make sense of matters and feelings, increase self awareness; With the self insights you can make life changes, should you wish to.
I provide counselling for adults and young people 16 years and above.
What happens in the session
An initial meeting will take place where we can familiarise ourselves, discuss what you need from counselling this may help you decide if counseling would benefit you and we can take it from there. Sessions will be at your own pace we can explore the issues that are troubling you, this may involve talking about life events, feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour; making sense of this by making connections to early experiences and how they may influence present difficulties. I will endeavour to listen intently, offer empathy and at times I may challenge you in order to help you see issues more clearly or in a different way.
I am interested in helping you in the process towards greater self awareness and understanding of your own needs and personal values which can enable you to live a fulfilled, happier life and more able to make positive life changes where you may have previously felt stuck or confused. Being explicit about what has been painful in our lives can be cathartic, liberating yet also challenging at times; Thus, it is a process of gaining trust in order to feel safe about disclosing details of your life and this differs amongst individuals. Therefore, this can be a process as long or as short as you need. The BACP ethical framework recommends up to twelve sessions of counselling as a guideline. However, a discussion will take place about this on our initial meeting.
